AS a teenager Leslie Hamilton was unsure where his future lay. But his prediliction for academic subjects in general and one area of science in particular, led a sharp-eyed teacher to suggest that he consider medicine.
A few decades later, the cardiac surgeon, who has been specialising in heart surgery at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle Upon Tyne, returned to Belfast's Hilton last week to deliver the Stokes Lecture - in honour of the 19th century Irish physician - as the keynote speaker at the Irish Cardiac's Society's annual meeting. ...
