Home furnishings retailers often talk about creating displays that customers can understand. The thinking is that the furniture displays should be decorated and accessorized thoroughly so that, with a little imagination, the customer can see how everything would fit into her home.

At American Home Show Place in Dalton, Ga., shoppers don't have to use their imagination quite as much as they might at other stores. That's because the retailer built a "dream home" in its superstore showroom.
