SANTA ANA, Calif. _ Orange County must pick up its share of regional airport demand because a proposed expansion of LAX would handle 11 million fewer passengers per year than previously planned, Los Angeles Mayor Jim Hahn said Monday.
Hahn said that the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks helped convince him that a massive overhaul of Los Angeles International Airport should focus on improving safety, not increasing the number of annual travelers to 89 million from its current 67 million. He is now proposing expanding LAX to 78 million passengers.
