Happy birthday to Dick Tracy, the comic strip character who has battled crime for decades.
This year is the 70th anniversary of the comic created by Chester Gould, who resided in Woodstock for 50 years. The strip is now illustrated by Naperville resident Dick Locher.
Downtown Woodstock's Chester Gould-Dick Tracy Museum will celebrate the occasion with an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 18.
The fictional detective comic featuring a square-jawed crime- fighter first appeared in "The Detroit Mirror" Oct. 4, 1931.
