In the Gospel of St. Matthew, Jesus tells his disciples that when two or three come together in his name, he will be there.
It's hard not to think about that verse in the dim quiet of the Thursday night prayer service at the First Apostolic Church in Algonquin.
Over the hum of a window air conditioner, three voices rise and fall in a sing-song cadence. Pastor Wayne Worthen, his wife Genenda Worthen, and Harold Canup, a Carpentersville man who serves as First Apostolic's youth minister, kneel alone, each engaged in spoken prayer.
