NORFOLK -- NORFOLK - Variety was the theme of the Virginia Symphony's concert Saturday evening at Chrysler Hall: two conductors, a guest soloist, a choral piece, a world premiere and an old favorite. Despite its patchwork nature, the program held together remarkably well, the result of consistently strong performances.
Robert Shoup led the first half of the concert, presenting Antonin Dvorak's ``Mass in D Major.'' The chorus sounded superb - consistently balanced, and capable of maintaining its beautiful tone across a wide dynamic range.
