Entertainer Harry Belafonte and Boston arts advocate Elma Lewis were honored yesterday for their efforts to promote racial diversity.
"I've been begging them for 10 years for this award," joked Belafonte, as he sat next to his wife, Julie, yesterday after receiving the Peace and Reconciliation Award from the Global Citizens Circle at a ceremony held at the Omni Parker House. "I am very flattered. And beyond what it does for my ego, more than self-anointing, it validates me and what I believe in and what I work for."
Lewis, a 1981 MacArthur Foundation genius grant recipient, was at the same time presented with the Catherine and Leroy Dunfey Award for her ...
