Byline: Staff writer Sterling A. Gray Jr
Staff writer Sterling A. Gray Jr. recently interviewed Jon Proctor Jr., chief of the Mattydale Volunteer Fire Department. Mattydale, Hinsdale, Lyncourt and Liverpool volunteer fire departments cooperated to staff a fire engine to respond to emergency calls during daytime hours throughout the town of Salina.
The crew will be called "Engine 91" and is designed to be a first-response vehicle. For related story, see Page 24. Proctor served on Engine 91 during the second shift of its first day.
The engine will run Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. if enough volunteers sign up to staff the engine.
