FORT WORTH _ The clock has yet to strike 12, but time appears to be running out on Midnight Madness.
College basketball's `late night with practice' was a popular craze during much of the 1990s. Thanks to ESPN, the sport's popularity increased during that decade and anything hoops was hot. In an effort to gain exposure, more teams started staging Midnight Madness.
What was cool is now ... well, cold. The trend is passing. Only schools with special occasions (the arrival of a new coach) or with a fervid tradition (Kentucky and Kansas come to mind) are burning the midnight oil.
