Q. With light bulbs being an extremely competitive category, how can chain drug retailers differentiate themselves from the other trade classes and make consumers think of their stores as a place to purchase light bulbs?
GOLDMACHER: "Since most chain drug stores don't have the shelf space to be all things to all people, they should enhance their mix by reducing the number of SKUs offered in standard incandescent bulbs and include a representation of some of the faster-growth categories -- particularly halogen, compact fluorescent and long-life incandescent.
