LONG BEACH - Even though the final numbers won't be in for a couple of weeks, the 2001 Summer Pro League was a success, SPL consultant Larry Creger said.
``It was better than the previous years,'' he said, ``because of the Lakers and the Clippers (who drew large crowds to their games). Both of those teams are now very popular in the community.''
Creger also noted the talent level was better than the past few years because of the new NBA salary structure for rookies that allowed the likes of Tyson Chandler and Shane Battier to sign and play in the summer. And because of NBA players like Penny Hardaway of the ...
