The Oneida Indian Nation has helped launch a nationwide talent search to develop Native American performers and is a co-sponsor of this month's Native American Music Awards.

But its own Turning Stone Casino Resort showroom in Verona rarely offers Native American artists.

"I think (nation representative Ray) Halbritter is right when he says people will go see Native American acts," said Gloria Williams of Utica, a fan of Native American music. "If he feels that way, then, hey, let's see some acts here. I can't understand why Indian casinos don't showcase their own people."
