The FBI on Saturday worked to sort out confirmed anthrax cases from hoaxes and vowed to prosecute those responsible for sending the deadly pathogen in letters to news media offices in New York and Florida and to a Microsoft office near Reno, Nev.
Barry Mawn, assistant director of the FBI's New York office, said the agency also would prosecute those found responsible for hoaxes, such as three letters sent from St. Petersburg, Fla., to The New York Times, NBC and the St. Petersburg Times. A letter sent to Sony Studios in Culver City, Calif., also tested negative for anthrax.
