GLENDALE - Nearly a century before ``Survivor'' became a television hit, one-time Glendale resident Nell Shipman was traversing the frozen wilderness to shoot and act in her own adventure films.
She performed her own stunts and trained wild animals to do tricks in her movies, as well.
The life of the pioneer silent filmmaker, who died in 1970 at age 78, is now being celebrated in an exhibit at the Doctors' House in Brand Park, where she lived from 1917 to 1920.
Today, she is considered not only a trailblazing actress and director, but also a feminist icon and an early animal rights activist.
