Trident Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRID) reported today its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2002 ended September 30, 2001. The company announced that its net sales for the first quarter were $25,740,000, a decrease of 20.5% from $32,393,000 for the prior quarter and a decrease of 28.6% from $36,057,000 for the same quarter of the prior fiscal year. Net loss in the first quarter of fiscal year 2002 was $28,209,000, or $2.12 per share including a $42,065,000 write-down of the investments in UMC and other companies.
