Historians know that George Washington was just one of our Founding Fathers to be involved in the beverage alcohol business, with a working distillery on his Mount Vernon estate in Virginia. Indeed, DISCUS had recently announced funding (from itself and its member companies and other spirits wholesaler and retailer organizations) for a $1.2 million restoration project at the site, which would provide for authentic reconstruction of the distillery as well as educational exhibits and programs for tourists. In fact, the Smithsonian Institute is planning to lend Mount Vernon an 18th century still believed to be one of George Washington's original copper pot stills.
