Tanker force upgrades and recapitalization, including buys of a Boeing [BA] 767 tanker, are the greatest modernization needs for the Air National Guard (ANG), Air Force Maj. Gen. Paul Weaver, ANG director, said yesterday.
The Air Force's aging Boeing KC-135E tankers, based on the Boeing 707 airframe, need replacement, either by a re-engined, refurbished R version from the active force or by 767s, Weaver told Defense Daily after an address by Air Force Gen. John Jumper, Air Force chief of staff, at an Aerospace Power breakfast sponsored by DFI International.
