PARIS -- Designer firms in Milan and Paris put on a brave face Wednesday when news spread that several major American retailers plan to skip the runway shows in Europe.
Citing the Gulf War as a historical reference point, they estimated the commercial portion of their audience could be diminished by as much as 20 to 30 percent.
