Like the rest of the electronics industry, contract manufacturers have been hard hit by the economic downturn.

After expanding revenues to $83 billion in 2000 from $47 billion in 1999, the Top 50 electronics contract manufacturers (CMs) will likely see revenues decline 5% in 2001. Slumping shipments of computers, networking equipment and cell phones mean less business for electronics manufacturing services (EMS) companies.
