Ron Young's work experience began in 1964 when he landed his first job, through the Urban League of Onondaga County.

Young started out as a dishwasher and then moved up to be

come a cook at a local nursing home. He's now vice president of governmental and public affairs at SUNY Upstate Medical University at Syracuse.

As Young follows the financial and management problems that threaten the local Urban League's existence, he says he wonders whether the agency can survive. The local chapter was created in 1964 to promote civil rights through housing, employment and education programs.
