Jerry Lewis, who has hosted the Muscular Dystrophy Association's annual Labor Day telethon for 35 years, plans to be on stage for his normal time, but he may be forced to cut back due to a weakened condition following a bout with pneumonia.

The telethon, with Lewis at the helm, has raised $1.61 billion since 1966, according to Bob Mackle, director of public information for the Tucson-based MDA.

Mackle said that as The NPT was going to press, Lewis was at home, resting and preparing to host the event. He was recovering from a bout of pneumonia that he had earlier in the summer.
