Julian Jeffs, Faber and Faber Limited, London, 445 pages, $35. O most people, even those in the wine trade, knowledge of the wines of Spain is pretty much limited to Rioja, sherry and maybe cava, the sparkling wine of the country. That is a pity, because perhaps no single country has seen such a leap in wine quality in the past few decades as Spain.
(I must admit to special interest here: I have been traveling the wine roads of Spain for some 20 years and, with my wife, Ann Walker, have written four books about Spanish wine and food. One of my mentors in the beginning was Julian Jeffs, with his excellent book on sherry.)
