The coaching carousel is going around with great speed throughout the majors, with job openings being filled almost as quickly as they opened. The Milwaukee Brewers, who need pitching and hitting coaches, are working with short lists and already have begun interviews.
In the running to replace Rod Carew as hitting coach is Gary Matthews, who turned down an offer to join Lopes' staff two years ago to take a job in Toronto's broadcast booth.
Cito Gaston, fired as the Blue Jays' hitting coach, also is interested in that position with the Brewers. Oddly enough, Gaston interviewed for the managerial job when Lopes ...
