The commercial feasibility study launched last year on the proposed Medgaz pipeline between Algeria and Spain should be completed in early 2003, according to Spain's Endesa (WGI Dec.14,p13).
Endesa Gas Supply Manager Joanna Hardinge tells WGI that the 220 kilometer pipeline would reach depths of over 2,000 meters and boast an initial capacity of 8 billion to 10 billion cubic meters per year (775 million to 965 million cubic feet per day) of gas. Its terminus at the Spanish town of Almeria would spur further work on the Spanish gas grid, as Almeria is not yet connected.
