A TRIM midsection is not something I've ever aspired to, which is fortunate, since it is not something I've ever had. But now everyone, from Chloe to Warehouse, is displaying racks of corsets, waisted jackets and wide belts, there is no escape. The waist is back.
This is bad news for an increasingly apple-shaped nation. My granny had an 18in waist when she married. But the average woman is now size 14-16 and measures 30in around the waist - a good three inches wider than 50 years ago.
