Oct. 23--BART's smallest union agreed late Monday night to extend its strike deadline 24 hours as negotiations went on past midnight.
State Sen. Tom Torlakson, D-Antioch, met with leaders of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3993, a group of 238 middle managers, and issued a joint statement with union president Norma del Mercado.
"Commuters can count on trains running without any disruption" today, Torlakson said. "I think the parties are getting close."
