Rising health insurance premiums will increase the number of insured, and premiums are rising. The rule of thumb is that for each percentage point increase in premiums, the number of uninsured rises by 200,000.
Premiums for employer-sponsored health insurance increased an average 11% in 2001, the largest increase in premiums since 1992, according to an annual survey of employer health benefit plans by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research and Educational Trust.
