Parent involvement, a national education goal mentioned in the Goals 2000 initiative, has become a necessity for effective schooling. However, parents' perspectives on family-school relations, parents' responsibility in instruction, and the needs of diverse families as they establish their role in the partnership all seem to be taken for granted. As a strategy, parental involvement appears to be primarily a response to school and parental goals for increased student success.
