MANTEO -- The same ``touch screen'' technology used by some local eateries to order up crab cakes from their kitchens will be used on a limited basis in electing town officials.
In fact, Dare will be the among the first North Carolina counties to use touch-screen voting, said Elections Director Melva Garrison. Two of the new machines will be used for early voting.
Voters who will be out of town on Election Day can vote up until Nov. 2. By Tuesday afternoon, 46 voters had cast ballots using the new technology.
Currently, the county relies on hand-marked ballots, which are counted by scanners. ...
