ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian Prime Minster, John Howard, has announced an election policy designed to interest low and middle income families. In late October 2001, Howard declared that a taxation rebate will be offered to families in which one parent opts to remain at home following the birth of a child. A rebate of between $A500 a year and $A2500 a year will be offered to assist in the care of the first child born to each family in the five years following 1 July 2002, regardless of whether the family has other children.
