CRUDE PEANUT oil prices have spiked up to 37 cents per pound during the last two to three weeks from the flat 33 to 34 cents per pound seen in recent months, Refined peanut oil prices have surged to almost 50 cents per pound from the low 40 cent-per-pound range as crude oil inventories are down to almost nil as consumers scramble for supply. The price spike, according to industry observers, is mostly attributed to the delayed import of peanut oil from Argentina. US peanut oil stocks are down this year and cannot cope with the current demand until production comes from the next peanut crop.
