The city of St. Charles can tear down Sebastian Karsch's house whenever it wants.
Citing the deteriorating condition of the house and Karsch's history of not obeying court orders, Judge Michael Colwell granted the city a demolition order Thursday afternoon for the 69-year-old packrat's home at 5N024 Route 31, St. Charles.
St. Charles officials sought the demolition order after searching Karsch's house in April and finding a gaping hole in the roof, water-damaged beams and paper piled so high that only narrow passageways remained. They cited Karsch for building code violations in a May letter to ...
