WHERE ARE THE soul food restaurants around here?
The places where smothered pork chops are served. Where collard greens and string beans are seasoned with ham hocks. Where pig feet are a delicacy and lemonade is poured into Mason jars.
Places where Southerners go to eat the dishes their mothers and grandmothers used to ``put their toes in,'' to borrow a Southern soul food expression.
For many, the presence of soul food restaurants signifies an area's cultural tolerance, its hipness, its arrival.
South Hampton Roads doesn't have a Sylvia's, B. Smith's or Justin's - popular soul food ...
