ROCKVILLE, MD -- The Food & Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) has made available the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) Inspection Checklist on its home page on the internet at www.fda.gov/cvmlforms/forms.html.
This checklist is to be used by federal and state inspectors to determine compliance with FDA's ruminant feed regulations, Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Part 589.2000.
This rule, which prohibits the use of most mammalian protein in feeds for ruminant animals, was implemented to prevent the establishment and amplification of BSE through feed in the U.S. The rule became effective Aug. 4, 1997.
