WASHINGTON _ You hear the horror stories about the treatment of women in some Muslim countries, and you can't help but want to liberate them. Particularly the ones who are veiled, housebound, and barred from school and jobs. Adultery in some parts of that world can bring the death penalty. According to one CNN report, women in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan can be punished if their shoes squeak too loud.
So when I had the chance the other day to sit down and talk with two young Muslim women who live in this country, I asked right away what they thought about the harsh treatment of women in places like Afghanistan.
"That's politics, not religion," ...
