While unions in other industries are calling for stricter safeguards against worker exposure to beryllium, service centers say there is no cause for concern in handling copper beryllium alloys.

Copper beryllium has come under media scrutiny for its possible role in causing a crippling, and sometimes fatal, lung disease. But producers of the alloy, and many service centers that handle it, say they have long been aware of the health implications of working with copper beryllium.
