NEW YORK _ It could be any apartment building in New York City, but it happened here at 1031 Freeman Street in the Bronx. A woman with no known link to intentionally poisoned mail contracted inhalation anthrax and died within days.
Kathy T. Nguyen, a 61-year-old Vietnamese immigrant, a woman who wore a different hat every day, who remembered her neighbors' birthdays and favorite holidays, was gone. Just like that.
"This is a lady who two weeks ago was walking around healthy," Anna Rodriguez, 47, a neighbor at 1031 Freeman, said Wednesday. "You know, her biggest complaint was her feet, that she had feet problems, but besides that she was a happy woman."
