CHP IMPERSONATOR CONTINUES EXTORTION ATTEMPTS

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- A phony California Highway Patrol officer using a variety of names has attempted to extort money from people across the state.

"This man is representing himself as a CHP officer or sergeant," said Commissioner Maury Hannigan. "The impersonator has called people from the Bay Area to Long Beach, telling them that a friend or loved one has been involved in an accident. Then he asks them to wire money to assist the 'accident victim,' Hannigan said.
