Nov. 2--Green Bay-based American Foods Group Inc., the nation's 10th-largest beef processor, is being gobbled up by Smithfield Foods Inc.
The deal is Virginia-based Smithfield's second acquisition of a Green Bay meat packing company this year, as it seeks to expand its nationwide market share of the beef packing business.
American Foods, which has about 1,300 employees in Green Bay, has agreed to be acquired by Smithfield for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition is expected to close by January.
