FORT WORTH _ College basketball coaches received a break of sorts Thursday when the NCAA's board of directors altered a controversial rule limiting basketball scholarships.
The directors reworked the so-called "5-8 rule." For the next two years, Division I-A men's basketball programs can sign no more than five players in a single recruiting class and nine over a two-year period. After two years, the "5-8" rule" will take effect, with no more than eight players to be signed over a two-year period.
