OAKLAND_Erick Dampier's 18-point, seven-rebound effort against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night can be considered nothing but encouraging. But perhaps even better news for followers of the Warriors was Dampier's assessment of his game one day later.
"I played OK," said Dampier, who had scored more than 18 points in a game only 13 times in his first five seasons. "I really don't think I played that well. There's a lot of room for improvement."
How Dampier could improve at the defensive end might be unanswerable. Dampier, the Warriors center, matched up with Portland's Rasheed Wallace, a power forward, and took Wallace out of the game. ...
