2001 NOV 8 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Researchers in Japan say that hemoglobin vesicles do not have a persistent effect on phagocytic activity in mice, offering hope that they may be suitable for use in humans.
"Hemoglobin-vesicles (HbV) have been developed for use as artificial oxygen carriers (particle diameter, 250 nm) in which a purified Hb solution is encapsulated with a phospholipid bilayer membrane," explained Eishun Tsuchida and colleagues at Wasedo University and Keio University School of Medicine in Tokyo.
