Nov. 5--FORT WORTH, Texas--Alcon Laboratories is one of the great Cowtown success stories that many people know little about.
A small Fort Worth ophthalmic pharmacy founded in 1945 by two partners, Alcon is the world's leading eye care company, with billions of dollars in sales, thousands of employees and operations on six continents.
But even in Tarrant County, few people are familiar with Alcon. That's largely because the company has been under the protective cloak of its parent, Swiss food giant Nestle S.A., since the late 1970s.
