CITING OVERCAPACITY in the North American market, Columbian Chemicals Company will temporarily cease production at its El Dorado, Ark., carbon black facility by November 30. Columbian says the capacity of the El Dorado plant is 54,000 metric tons.
"Continued overcapacity, coupled with an uncertain business outlook for the next 12 to 18 months, has forced Columbian to search for ways to protect our viability and remain a leader in the global carbon black market," says Manuel J. Iraola, president and chairman of Columbian.
