DEMAND FOR polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) has been severely affected this year by its major markets--automotive and electric and electronic (E&E). Despite the slowdown in PPS demand, producers anticipate a return to near double-digit growth rates once the global economy rebounds.
So far this year, PPS demand is off by more than 10 percent. "Demand has declined 10 to 12 percent globally," says Jeff Siebenaller, president of Fortron Industries, a joint venture between Ticona and Kureha Chemical Industries and a leading producer of PPS.
