In an article for the Annals New York Academy of Sciences, Martin L. Pall and James D. Satterlee note that chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), multiple chemical sensitivity (MSC), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and fibromyalgia (FM) are characterized by many of the same symptoms. According to the authors, each of these chronic conditions usually develop after short-term stress. Martin L. Pall theorizes that these disorders are caused by "elevated levels of peroxynitrite and its precursors, nitric oxide and superoxide." Peroxynitrite is a powerful oxidant.
