Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth ages 10-24
A few years ago, my son's best friend committed suicide. Dylan (my son) and Gabe, both teenagers at the time, left town on the Friday morning. They travelled up to the Bruce Peninsula for a couple of nights of camping. They returned on Sunday in good spirits, laughing and joking about their adventure. Gabe ate a big meal and then said he had to go home.
I knew Gabe's parents were away for the week at a summer cottage, so I suggested he stay overnight at our house. But Gabe insisted he needed to go home to take care of the family dog. The next night, he telephoned for Dylan. As fate would ...
