ANAHEIM, CALIF. -- There may bean alphabet soup of ingredients found in herbal remedies, but there are three beginning with G that absolutely need to be discussed with patients undergoing dermatologic procedures, Dr. James Q. Del Rosso said at the American Academy of Dermatology's Academy 2001 meeting.
The three Gs he worries about are gingko, ginseng, and garlic, depending on how much of each the patient is taking, said Dr. Del Rosso of the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.
All three may decrease platelet activity In large quantities, they may be associated with increased bleeding during or after dermatologic surgery.
