WITH its famous revolving restaurant it offered the chance to sample "life at the top".
It even featured in the opening sequence of News At Ten (with Reggie Bosanquet) and delivered the best panoramic view of the capital.
What was a new feature on London's skyline in 1964 has even kept pace with the times, altering its name on no fewer than three occasions. Having started life as the Post Office Tower, it became the Telecom Tower, and finally the BT Tower.
Recognition has come with its nomination as an icon of postwar communication technology.
