In 1952, the Lexington Choral Society hired a young Boston University music professor to lead its ensemble. Nobody - including Allen Lannom, the young choral director in question - thought he'd still be doing the job 50 years later.
But he is. Lannom, now 84, has developed the group - known as the Masterworks Chorale since 1969 - into one of the area's finest community groups.
Lannom traces his choral training roots to the great Robert Shaw, whose Robert Shaw Chorale was the model for such ensembles, and to the great choral conductor Julius Herford. Lannom studied with Shaw at Juilliard School of Music as a young man, and stayed in touch with the master ...
